Components of the HD IV Set:

• Roller Clamp: Used to control the amount of fluid entering the IV set tube. Moving the clamp increases pressure on the plastic tubing and narrows it to reduce the flow rate. Moving it in reverse increases fluid flow. The clamp must be closed before connecting to the fluid bag to prevent air from entering the system.
• Drip Chamber: Located directly below the IV bag, it transfers fluid into the tubing and serves as the visual indicator to count drops per minute and calculate flow rate. It should always be kept half full; if it is overfilled, counting drops becomes impossible. Proper secure connection prevents air from entering the bloodstream.
• Air/Liquid Filter: A white filter made of polypropylene located at the end of the drip chamber with a pore size of about 15 microns. It filters out particles and microorganisms in the fluid to protect the patient from infection.

How to Use the HD IV Infusion Set:

1. First, tighten the roller clamp securely.
2. Insert the plastic spike into the fluid bag.
3. Squeeze the drip chamber until it is half full.
4. Open the roller clamp to flush the tube and remove all air bubbles.
5. Close the roller clamp again, then insert the needle into the patient’s vein.
6. Adjust the flow rate of the liquid using the roller clamp.
7. Hygienically dispose of the set after a single use.
